Institutional Investor Magazine is presenting the 9th annual Hedge Fund Industry Awards this June 20th in New York City. Nominees from hedge funds, funds of hedge funds, seeder firms, investment consultants, endowments, foundations, family offices, corporate funds and public funds who stood out among their peers for their achievements will be recognized at the event.
Even if you don’t plan on attending, it may be worth checking out the event’s website as part of your hedge fund job search, for a look at the leading firms in your industry. Firm of the Year awards will go to leaders in Institutional, Multistrategy, Emerging Markets, Relative Value, Credit-Focused, Equity-Focused, Large and Small Fund, and other categories.
There is also a category of awards called The Rising Stars of Hedge Funds, which represents up-and-comers whose accomplishments stand out among their younger peers and position them as future industry leaders. These Stars, according to Institutional Investor, are individuals who are playing an increasingly significant role in the hedge fund industry, either as a manager, investor or service provider.
The Awards dinner is held in conjunction with Institutional Investor’s Annual Hedge Fund Investor Symposium. This conference brings together senior investment executives from corporate and public pension plans, endowments, foundations, and consultants with a limited number of hedge fund and fund of fund sponsors and attendees, to discuss a wide range of issues related to the role of hedge fund and fund of hedge fund assets in institutional portfolios. Last year’s symposium was attended by more than 100 hedge fund investors with an investor to manager ratio of 1.3 to 1.0, according to Institutional Investor.
If you plan on attending either event, it could be a worthwhile opportunity to spend two days networking with prominent hedge fund investors and managers. At the very least, you may want to familiarize yourself with the names of award nominees and the major firms attending both the Awards dinner and Hedge Fund Investor Symposium.
